Trek Description
Ladakh is a stunningly beautiful high altitude situated in North Western India. Ladakh’s cultural roots lie firmly with it’s Tibetan neighbours rather than the Indian sub-continent ,and travelers in Ladakh have often called the region ‘Little Tibet’. Our Markha Valley trek offers a perfect combination of mountain grandeur and fascinating cultural connections as we trek through the Valley of the Markha River through ancient villages and over high Himalayan passes. Starting out from Delhi, we fly to Leh, the capital of Ladakh, allowing time to acclimatize and explore the many sites of spiritual and historical interest around this vibrant mountain metropolis. Our 7 day trek takes us through lush irrigated valleys and arid mountain deserts. We pass through several river valley settlements and cross the high Gongmaru La as a climax to this wonderfully varied ‘short trek’. We return to Leh and take return flights to our very comfortable hotel in Delhi, in preparation for our journey home.
Testimonial
We have just returned from an amazing Wilderness Trekking holiday. It was quite strenuous for me as I had little trekking experience whereas, my husband has done quite a lot of walking before. However, the encouragement and consideration I received brought out the best in me! We saw the wonders of village life leading to the most wonderful mountain scenery. We were careful not to intrude into the privacy of the local families, but engaged in some real connections with village life in such a way that everyone seemed happy to share time with us. Our staff were well chosen and we felt really in tune with the local people. It has been a privilege to be part of Wilderness Trekking , they really do care.
